Rio de Janeiro or also known
as Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City) or just Rio
is the probably most famous city in Brazil.
Located at the beautiful
Brazilian Eastcoast the 2nd biggest city in Brazil
after Sao Paulo and capital of the state Rio de
Janeiro Rio is put into a picturesque scenery
surrounded by green mountains and the Atlantic
Ocean.
Everybody most likely that view
from a picture and postcard. And it is indeed
stunning. Being high up on the
Sugar Loaf or the
Corcovado mountain with its Statue of
Christ the
Redeemer - and being able to look over the whole
city.
The
Sugar Loaf and Corcovado are
already two of the most magnificent sights in Rio.
The Sugar Loaf rises up in a peninsula sticking out
into the Atlantic. The by far easiest way to get up
there is to take the Cablecar which goes directly up
to the almost 400 meters high top. Of course you can
also climb your way up along the steep walls of the
mountain if you are into that.
The
top then offers the impressive view. To get an even
more amazing view take a helicopter ride from top of
the Sugar Loaf or take the ride by Mountain Railway
up on top of the Corcovado Mountain. There on
top of the 710 m high mountain you'll find the
viewing platform and the huge statue of Christ the
Redeemer. The huge statue rises up another 40 meters
and can be seen from anywhere in and nearby the city.
Of course a trip to Rio wouldn't
be complete withouth visiting the
Maracana Staidum,
one of the biggest soccer Stadiums in the world and
host of the 1950 worldcup final. Apart from the
impressive size you can try to follow into
Pele's
footprints.
Last but not least, Rio has some
gorgeous beaches to offer. The
Copacapana is
directly in front of all the big hotels and visited
by a lot of tourist. Ipanema for example, also
famous by the Song "The girl from Ipanema" is at
least as nice, but usually much quiter.
Despite all beautyness one has to
say that Rio is a quite dangerous place as well.
Crime rates are high and it can happen that tourists
are robbed. It is definitely recommendable to visit
the sights in bigger groups. Even better would be to
join organized tours or in case you have local
friends there being accompanied by them when
exploring the beauty of the city.
After all Rio de Janeiro is
definitely a Must See. So Enjoy Rio.
